Ahmedabad Heritage Walk

Ahmedabad Heritage Walk

The City of Ahmedabad that was established 600 years ago in 1411 A.D. houses some of the fines Indo-Islamic monument and beautiful Hindu and Jain Temples. The wooden houses that are intricately carved showcase the unique architectural-tradition of city of Ahmedabad. To experience this breath taking glory of this Historic City, it is essential to walk through the ‘Walled City’ and truly experience its rich and varied architecture, its art, religious places, its culture and traditions.

With the intention of showing the true colors of the city to the visiting  tourist and to the citizens themselves, The Heritage Walk of Ahmedabad  was launched by the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The stand out feature of Ahmedabad is its Poles, clustered living, sheltering large number of people, sharing culture, food, etc. Quiet a few of these Pols are virtually small villages, having narrow lanes, generally ending up in Chowks comprising Chabutro (Bird Feeder). These Pols have huge gates for protection and secrete passage. These historic places are shown and explained in detail during the Ahmedabad Heritage Walk.

The Ahmedabad Heritage Walk starts from Swaminarayan temple in Kalupur and concludes at the historic Jama Masjid. During the course of the journey it covers 20 main locations in the Walled City, covering its heritage importance and establishment date. Because of this reason the Heritage Walk is also known as the journey of ‘Mandir to Masjid’
